What exactly is a cottage bakery?
A cottage bakery is a bakery run out of a residential kitchen as determined by Texas Cottage Food Law (SB 572), which is awesome-sauce with an extra side of awesome-sauce. Of course, with great awesomeness comes great responsibility! Firstly, there are some things I’m just not allowed to sell (like raw cookie dough! Or, uhhh, meat cookies…). Secondly, I must have an up-to-date Food Handlers Card, a process that involves a fun training course full of exciting slideshows and riveting quizzes. Also, it means get to share this official statement with you: “This food is made in a home kitchen and is not inspected by the Department of State Health Services or a local health department.”
Where do I pick up my cookies? Do you deliver?
I am located in Flower Mound, TX near Morriss and Main (see the official map location on my About page). If you are picking up your cookie order, this is where we’ll meet! I do also deliver for free within a limited radius, primarily in Flower Mound and the surrounding cities of Bartonville, Coppell, Copper Canyon, Double Oak, Highland Village, Lantana, and Lewisville. If you are outside of this general radius, let me know and we’ll see what we can arrange so you can get the cookies you deserve!
How about shipping me some cookies?
I would LOVE to ship you cookies…however, at least one part of our cookie transaction must occur in person, so the only way I can ship you cookies is if you order from me in person. It is, alas, the law.
Why do you bake your cookies by the “batch”?
Live by the batch, die by the batch! But seriously, I want all of your cookies to be as fresh as possible, and that means not throwing a bunch of dough in the freezer so I can just portion it out in tiny tidbits. Fresh cookies are the BEST cookies (and I have yet to learn how to cut an egg in half, so by the batch it is!).
How far in advance do I need to order?
I have a pretty flexible schedule, so I am currently able to fill all cookie orders easily within 24 hours of initial contact. However, I am also a real person who has unfortunate real person things to do sometimes even if I’d rather be baking for you, so let me know what your timeline is when you request an order, and I’ll let you know if I can reach it!
What is the most amount of cookies you have ever baked at once?
I haven’t counted the exact numbers of my weekend convention cookie giveaways in some time, but I’d estimate my biggest batch bake in a day was around 700 or so cookies, three different flavors. Which is a lot of cookies…but it’s for a good cause! Writers need cookies to function–it’s a fact!
I have terrible food allergies–can you make my cookies gluten/nut/allergen-free?
This is a tough question. In regards to gluten-free baking, it isn’t an area I am familiar with, and none of my current recipes are gluten-free. As for nuts and other food allergens, while I do my best to avoid cross-contamination with allergen sources, all my cookies are baked in a kitchen that contains nuts…and eggs…and milk…and soy…and all of those other terribly allergic things (I cook. A lot.). So if the phrase “made in a facility that processes eggs, nuts, soy, peanuts, milk, wheat, fish, and shellfish” fills you with concern, then my home kitchen might not be the best fit for your cookie needs.
That being said, I do have friends with severe food allergies and have been safely cookie-ing them up for years now. Just let me know what your allergies are, and we’ll figure out an action plan!
